There was only the one change from the home loss to Venezia, Damiani replacing Broh in midfield. With both Benevento and Palermo both on 15 points and sitting at the foot of the table a win for either side would be big for confidence and make ground in the league.
A long kick from Benevento goalkeeper Paleari with Palermitano La Gumina running onto it, Pigliacelli comes out and clears the ball under pressure. Benevento claimed a penalty but the referee had none of it. Damiani broke from a Benevento corner and passed forward to Di Mariano who's shot was blocked. Damiani was involved once again on the half hour finding space on the edge of the box he managed to pick out Brunori who came near post but that effort went out of play. In the 35th minute Benevento had an effort that wasn't too far away Letizia shooting from distance. Bettella gave the ball away and Benevento came straight at the Palermo defence Forte putting his shot wide. The last real action of an action less first half saw a long punt upfield by Pigliacelli looking for Di Mariano breaking lines but the ball was cut out the ball fell to Brunori who's shot went wide. Goalless going into the break, neither team had really got going, Benevento had most of the opportunities and you could see some frustration setting in from La Gumina but it's Palermo who were more frustrated with their lack of goal threat.

The second half got off to a slow start it wasn't until the 54th minute that any real action of note came and that action was a breakthrough that came from Gomes' endeavour taking the ball from Benevento's feet and passing to Brunori to run into space driving forward into the box to shoot and score. 1-0 Palermo. An improvement from Brunori from the last game against Venezia.

A goal down on the hour mark saw Cannavaro try and change the game in Benevento's favour making a triple substitution Tello, Simy and Schiattarella replacing Forte, Farias and Viviani respectively. Not too long after the clearly frustrated La Gumina was replaced by Kubica, La Gumina had been very quiet. Palermo made a change with Broh coming on for Damiani who showed why he started with his strong performance. Acampora had an effort for the equaliser receiving the ball on the edge of the box but his shot went wide. The substitute Kubica played Benevento into trouble gifting the ball to Brunori on the half way line who shoots from the very distance he received the ball having the beating of Paleari but sadly hitting the post, Brunori the sorcerer trying his magic. In the last minute Tello crossed towards the backpost to Improta who controlled it with his belly and thighs and stabbed it on the volley wide, a great chance for Benevento to equalise. In stoppage time Benevento were still in search of an equaliser Masciangelo crossing from the left towards the backrest headed away by Crivello and cleared with an overhead kick by Broh picked up by Vido who replaced Valente, running into space and carrying it some distance before squaring it to Soleri who replaced Brunori up front, Soleri unmarked on the edge of the box with just Paleari to beat his shot was saved and put round the post. The final whistle blew on a Palermo win. Yet again not a great performance by the Rosanero but it was much better in the second half. A massive win for Palermo away at Benevento who are now out of the relegation zone. A much better performance from Brunori but all credit must go to Gomes who made that goal and played really well.
